What are Digital Skills

17/07/2022 Digital skills defined 0

“Digital skills are broadly as the skills needed to “use digital devices, communication applications, and networks to access and manage information,” from basic online searching and emailing to specialist programming and development.” – UNESCO

There are basic/entry-level digital skills e.g. being able to use the internet or send emails. This is being able to navigate and use basic digital devices and applications. No tech expertise is required to be at this level.

Entry-level digital skills can include:

  • Computer literacy
  • Data entry
  • Social media
  • Web-based communications and research
  • Word processing
  • Email and chat

Advanced digital skills require high-level knowledge and expertise. These digital skills can include:

  • Programming, web, and app development
  • Digital business analysis
  • Digital marketing and content creation
  • Digital design and data visualization
  • Digital product management
  • Data science
  • User experience design

Must quickly add that whilst our generation calls these digital skills, the children born into the Digital Age will view these just as ‘skills’. Based on the skills we have shared here, what level are you?
